Exceptional Elders of Every Expression

This page is dedicated to equine elders everywhere, working or retired.  To add your special senior to our gallery, please send a clear photo in .jpg or .gif format to TREES' webmaster.  Please include the horse's name, age, breed and any special talents or traits.  If the horse is not yet retired, we'd love to see him at work!  (20 years or older ONLY, please!)  Thank you for keeping them healthy, happy and at home.

Note:  All photographs in the Exceptional Elders Gallery remain the property of those who submitted them and are used here with the owners' permission.  Gallery photographs are not available for use elsewhere without owners' permission.

Keenya 20+ year old Paso Fino mare.

Keenya was injured in one of 2004's dangerous hurricanes.  Following the storm, no longer wanted by her previous owner, Keenya was taken in by Florida resident Cheryl Hanna and nursed back to health.  Thank you Cheryl!

Brooks, aka "old man," is 28-30 something years old. He is still fully ridable and a dream come true. He is a trail horse as well as still gets the speed going for barrels and poles. As well as can still jump a 2' fence. We live at harwood heights, Illinois.

Misty (right) is around 23.  She's an Arab cross or that at least our best guess.  She's been with me for 5 yrs and loves attention and the occasional ride.   Dude (left) is around 25 - 27. He came to me in March unfed and wormy. He's turned around to be a great looking guy. He looks half his age.  Dude isn't much for riding but makes a great friend and companion. He is going to live a life of leasuire in MD.  Owned by Alisha in Pa.

Bee and Daho (aka Peavy's Idaho Dream) live with Diane in Maine

  • Bee (left, middle) is a 27 year old Quarter Horse mare.  According to her proud new owner, who acquired Bee in June 2005, she is another excellent example of the need to be diligent with elder dental care.  Once Bee had a little dental attention and could eat more comfortably.....the results are obvious.  Now that she is feeling better, Bee has been brought out of retirement and is teaching kids horsemanship!

  • Daho, on the right, is a 23 year old Appaloosa gelding.  He still loves to trail ride and is "really a thousand pound puppy."  Daho's teeth are "worn down to nothing," but he is fed soft meals which he can eat easily.  Exceptional!
