Elder Trivia

 

 

Oldest known horses:

Old Billy, died in November 1822 at the ripe age of 62 in Woolstone, Lancashire.

Tulle, an Icelandic Horse mare, died in 1954 at age 57.  She was still working at age 45!

Badger, a grey Arab-Welsh cross, was born in Wales in 1953.  He died in 2004 at age 51.

 

Oldest draft horse:

Monty died at age 52 in New South Wales, Australia

 

Oldest horse known to be orphaned as a foal:

Molly Craig, a 45 year old Welsh pony in the Tottenham area of Ontario.

 

Considered "old" in Thoroughbred racing:

John Henry was the oldest horse to win a Grade 1 race - at age 9.  He was also the oldest horse to win an Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year the same year.

Oldest Mother:

The oldest mare ever to give birth was a 42 year old Australian brood mare.

Oldest horse to complete the Western States Trail Ride (AKA the Tevis Cup Ride):

Ace's Wild, a 26 year old quarter/grade, ridden by Moire Donald in 1980.  The oldest horse to win the Tevis Cup Ride was Bandos at age 16, in 1956.  About the Tevis Cup Ride - 100 Miles, One Day
